Your Sample Was Approved. So Why Doesn't Bulk Feel the Same?

September 07, 2026 · DONGFAN Editorial Team

You approved the sample, but bulk arrives with different hand-feel and drape — and the factory blames "normal bulk variation."

The hidden risk

The sample was hand-made by a senior maker, while bulk runs through production-line conditions — different machine, tension, speed, and a different fabric batch.

How to judge

Ask whether the sample was made under production-line conditions, and require a Pre-Production (PP) sample cut from the actual bulk fabric before cutting.

What the factory must provide

A PP sample made from bulk fabric with bulk trims, produced before cutting, with machine/tension records and buyer sign-off.

How DONGFAN handles it

DONGFAN cuts a PP sample from the actual bulk fabric and trims for sign-off before production — closing the gap between "sample feel" and "bulk reality."

Buyer checklist

  • PP sample cut from actual bulk fabric
  • Bulk trims (buttons / zips / lining)
  • Buyer sign-off before cutting
  • Machine & tension record
  • Fabric batch / lot reference
  • Production-line (not hand-made) condition
